MACAU, 20th November 2011 – The 2011 WTCC season that has just concluded has been
extremely successful for Chevrolet, the RML team, the Cruze and its drivers. This is a brief
review of an extraordinary 2011 campaign.
Round 1, Curitiba: The opening round of 2011 marks the race debut of the new Cruze 1.6
turbo, which sweeps the floor! Poleman Huff, Muller and local hero Cacà Bueno on the fourth
car post a 1-2-3 in Race 1, Menu takes victory in Race 2, with Muller 3rd.
Round 2, Zolder: Huff, again on pole, wins Race 1 ahead of Menu and Muller, but loses
positions in Race 2 after a fierce battle with Tarquini, who wins. Menu (3rd) is on the podium
while Muller retires.
Round 3, Monza: Pole and two wins for Huff, with Muller second twice, while Menu retires
after a contact with… Muller in Race 1 and is 5th in Race 2. Huff strengthens his lead in the
points (120) ahead of Muller (84) and Menu (79).
Round 4, Budapest: First pole for Menu, who wins Race 1 in front of a huge crowd, with
Huff 4th and Muller 5th. The Frenchman wins Race 2, interrupted because of torrential rain,
ahead of Huff, while Menu is taken out of the track by Coronel.
Round 5, Brno: First pole for Muller, but it's Huff who wins Race 1 ahead the Frenchman
and Menu, in the third 1-2-3 of the season. Muller takes his revenge in Race 2, after a
sensational charge, with Menu 3rd and Huff 4th.
Round 6, Porto: Menu from pole takes win in Race 1 in first street circuit of the year, with
Muller and Huff completing an all-blue podium. Rob beats Yvan in Race 2, after some
controversy in a chicane between the two, and the Brit leads by 29 points at mid-season.
Round 7, Donington: Muller starts his comeback in Rob's home event, taking pole and two
wins ahead of the Brit. A contact between the two animates Race 2. Menu is 3rd in Race 1
and 5th in Race 2.
Round 8, Oschersleben: Muller on pole and winner of Race 1 ahead of Huff, with Menu 5th.
Race 2 sees the second win of the year of a non-Chevrolet driver (Engstler), with Menu 2nd,
Muller 5th and Huff 6th.
Round 9, Valencia: Muller takes the lead of the championship (333 points) from Huff (317)
in last European round after bringing home pole and two wins. Rob takes a 5th and a 2nd, and
Menu is twice on the podium (2nd and 3rd).
Round 10, Suzuka: While the Drivers' title can't escape one of the Chevy boys, Menu takes
pole and win in Race 1, while Huff (2nd and 3rd) and reduces by 3 units the points gap to
Muller, who takes a 4th and & 2nd. Local rally legend Toshi Arai drives the fourth car.
Round 11, Shanghai: Menu continues his Asian parade, bagging the pole and a win in Race
1, but the title battle becomes an exclusive duel between Muller (400 points) and Huff (380).
The Frenchman takes a 4th and an impressive win in Race 2, the Brit is third twice.
Round 12, Macau: Wile Menu is ousted of the races in lap 1, Huff takes pole and wins Race
1 resisting the attacks of Muller. The Brit encores in Race 2, with Muller taking 3rd and
winning the Drivers' title by 3 points (433 vs 430).
